Way To Go POGO: Launching Secure Drop Amid Whistleblower Subpoenas
June 14, 2014
POGO (Project on Government Oversight) is currently being pressured by the US Government via subpoena to turn over records in the VA Whistleblower cases; and, the highly respected Washington DC based watchdog group is refusing. Refusing the government’s request? How dare they uphold the very foundation to protect those who can prove the government has done wrong? Let’s recognize that it’s becoming an increasing all too common problem where fear and intimidation are used to keep everyone in line (Hello borders!)
The Associated Press (AP) obtained an email from Eligio “Lee” Pena, an assistant patrol agent, that ordered more than 3,000 agents to not speak to reporters about the “humanitarian crisis.” The email allegedly said that reporters are likely to press for details and “may try to disguise themselves” in the process.” patdollard.com
We keep letting two corrupt entities negotiate behind closed doors on behalf of the American people. This isn’t a partisan problem, it is an every person problem. We all have compassion towards the children on the border but we need transparency and facts which it’s clear the government isn’t offering.
At first I thought the border crisis was meant as a distraction to the VA crisis and now I realize that government created both by all of us not paying enough attention. If we keep doing what we always did we will always get what we always got.
It’s good to see at least one organization in America still has some integrity.
Disgracefully, the Inspector General (IG) of the VA subpoenaed POGO earlier this week for all of the information it has received through its tips system that, for the past month, has been located at VAoversight.org. (Do not use this website anymore. The new SecureDrop page is located here.). POGO has said “Since the website went live, about 700 people have submitted tips or aired grievances. About 25 percent of those tips have come from current or former VA staffers.”
