GM CEO Mary Barra: 15 Employees Terminated: PR Spin Unspun
June 6, 2014
“Fifteen individuals, who we determined to have acted inappropriately, are no longer with the company. Some were removed because of what we consider misconduct or incompetence. Others have been relieved because they simply didn’t do enough: They didn’t take responsibility; didn’t act with any sense of urgency. Disciplinary actions have been taken against five additional people as well. With these moves, I feel we have addressed the personnel issues in this matter.” Mary Barra
And why won’t Mary Barra be transparent and release the names of those terminated? Mary Barra who has been with GM since 1986 stated that for 11 years people overlooked problems. Wasn’t she one of those people? Shouldn’t the public be given the facts (and not a closed door internal investigation) to decide if these people were really responsible or accomplices who have become victims when negative and illegal behavior about GM was exposed hurting their image.
So is this another closed door deal with the government?
“What the Valukas investigation uncovered — in this situation — is a pattern of incompetence and neglect. … Unfortunately, the report found, these seemingly benign actions led to devastating consequences. In short, we misdiagnosed the problem from the beginning.” The Valukas report (concluded) that there was no conspiracy found and there was no employee that made a trade off between safety and cost.”
Be sure and tell that to the families that lost loved ones. When will the government figure out white collar crimes are associated with death? We are allowing corporations to get away with murder where the goverment profits billions and CEOs get promoted.
Why do we keep allowing known corrupt entities to negotiate crimes committed against the people out of the view of the people?

I for one am impressed they finally ferreted out the actual, real, no-shit, 15 evil bastards who were totally and wholly responsible for this mess. Whew! Now we can all go back to happily tootling off to WalMart in their wonderful little Cobalt cars and not have a second thought at all. Tra-la-la.

Yes, Mary Barra was very quick to place blame but not willing to take accountability. Sadly the 15 were likely threatened if they didn’t sign an NDA they wouldn’t receive severance….mmm where have I seen those tactics before (oh yeah January 4, 2011), if I wanted additional 4 weeks I had to sign an NDA. I remember that call 4 weeks after my public beheading from HR like it were yesterday. “Hey we didn’t received your NDA for the additional 4 weeks.” Gosh do you think they’re still waiting?
