DO NOT BUY A TOSHIBA PORTEGE ULTRABOOK LAPTOP Z935-P300-TOSHIBA REFUSES TO SELL REPLACEMENT BATTERY
May 12, 2014
UPDATED November 20, 2015
THE FIX: No thanks to TOSHIBA
August 1, 2012 Purchased Toshiba Portege Z935-P300. I liked it up until recently. I mean all the keys have popped off and I’ve had to replace them numerous times, but it’s really light and what I was looking for. (At one point it looked like if my keyboard was smiling it was missing all its teeth-upside I can type even without keys). My computer is no longer under warranty and I refuse: 1. to send it back for two weeks and pay around $300 for a replacement battery per the unhelpful salesperson at Best Buy 2. try not to find an economical solution to a problem (something I’ve always done with great success).
May 1, 2014 Started to look at Toshiba site to see if I could find the replacement battery for the PORTEGE Z935 P-300 (all other models were available for purchase but not the Portege)
Went to Batteries and Lightbulbs (local who claim to have every type of computer battery) they appeared to have all BUT THE TOSHIBA PORTEGE BATTERY).

May 5, 2014 Extensive Google searches turned up one site and someone on the Toshiba Forum page did not suggest and said it was a SCAM the company took his money and sent him a used battery. Other sites claim to have the battery but don’t when you actually talk to a representative. This is a very specialized battery. But there was hope from the Toshiba Forum:
Yet here’s video provided by Peter a Toshiba employee Toshiba showing you how to replace the battery in the Portege Ultrabook Z935-P300 on YouTube.
Great! Even though the battery in under the case and has to be taken apart this step by step but there is that lovely YouTube video provided by Toshiba which makes it look pretty easy. And well as a father/daughter project it shouldn’t be too hard. My father was an airline mechanic for over 30 years and fixed cars and any other electronic on the side as a hobby. He is also a self-made man who started his own business which resulted in his buying a golf course. His business cards said “From the airways to the fairways.” So, I’m pretty sure he could handle the task of helping me replace my fucking computer battery, no?
So THANKS PETER AT TOSHIBA PORTEGE Z935 for showing us how to replace the battery but for neglecting to mention TOSHIBA REFUSES TO ACTUALLY SELL THE NECESSARY BATTERY TO THE CUSTOMER. This language from Toshiba is inconsistent and contradictory and a characteristic of The Sociopathic Business Model™
Hey Peter! I’ll pitch in for your trailer you super star if you can just get Toshiba to sell the batteries directly to the consumers. Amazing they have no problem getting batteries for the computers they sell but replacement batteries? Well, I guess Toshiba just thinks we’re all too stupid to follow Peter’s video or they’re greedy and want everyone to send them back for a replacement battery regardless of warranty.
BOYCOTT TOSHIBA until they can be fair with all of their customers and offer replacement parts for their computers that do not require their high-cost service agreements.

I have the same issue with the same model just out of warrant too. The battery number is PA5013U-1BRS.
I found heaps for sale online for about 80 dollar.

Thank you!

Same problem; dead battery. Wondering if you purchased the Toshiba battery pa5107u-1brs for your protege Z935-P300 and if was the correct one? I clicked on the link provided, but didn’t see that the battery was specifically for the Protégé z935-P300.

Hi Mary, I found that part of the problem was this part: DC POWER JACK cable harness TOSHIBA Portege Z935-P300 Z935-P390 Connector
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161130996466 If you see an orange flashing plug-in at the base of the computer this may be the problem. I went the less expensive route to see if this fixed the problem first (only$8.60.) I purchased the part for the link I’ve provided. You may want to try this first and see if your battery will keep a charge after. Hope this helps!
Also here are the step by step instructions with screenshots of taking the computer apart. This was very helpful when we did this two weeks ago.

Hey Melayna,
Thanks for the info, but I definitely need a new battery. I bought it in late 2011 and really would like to keep it 1-2 more years, but it only holds a charge for 30-45 minutes. Also have same problem with the keys; cheaply made, it’s my last Toshiba after years of loving them.
Thanks!
