People outraged by #CulturalAppropriation (good). 2015
People supporting #ReligiousAppropriation (bad). 2018 #MetGala remains an abusive event & why celebrities are seen as hypocrites . #TheSociopathicBusinessModel pic.twitter.com/nkgzy2SQ9h— KillingMyCareer (@MelaynaLokosky) May 8, 2018

#Paltrowing
If you’re waxing nostalgic for a time when celebrities were superficially charming, lacking in shame, remorse, guilt or accountability and didn’t recognize the rights of others well then tonight’s your lucky night because the Met Gala’s Chinese aesthetics’ influence on Western fashion theme makes Gwyneth Paltrow’s sense of entitlement almost seem reasonable.
Adam Sandler comedy now accused of using makeup so actors look Native American
As long as this type of unethical & illegal behavior is encouraged, replicated & rewarded
it will continue and the Met Gala’s exploitation of Chinese aesthetics is the latest example.
#ForcedAccountability
Hollywood is notorious for discrimination (Sony Hack anyone?) and at this year’s Oscars Patricia Arquette passionately addressed gender discrimination in this country with the goal of receiving equal pay and the subtext of where she was (in front of every powerful male producer and director in Hollywood) added an extra kick of a Jimmy Choo directly to their junk.
#SelectiveTolerance
You get all these white people putting them chopsticks in their hair like props little they know they mean death in the family

Every celebrity female who has complained of gender discrimination, attended the Met Gala and chose to exploit the Chinese culture please know that with each cat-eyed, dragon on dress, chop stick in the hair, lacking in self-awareness pose tonight that you’ve not only offended an entire culture you’ve systematically now kicked Patricia Arquette (and every other woman) in their already making less money makers. Lily Aldridge Met Gala 2015
Racism & Sexism
the Met Gala is not cultural appropriation the Met Gala is not cultural appropriation the Met Gala is not cultural appropriation — amanda (@harryscabello) May 5, 2015
The three biggest EEOC workplace violations are Retaliation, Race Discrimination & Sex Discrimination and if you’ve never experienced discrimination (either personal or professional) you’re likely not able to speak for one of these groups. And if you have experienced discriminated then you know the hopelessness it creates and should have empathy for others in a similar situation.
half of these celebrities at the met gala are using this as a chance to take part in cultural appropriation smh — ami ♡ bobby (@TheyLoveUOnly) May 5, 2015
However, this group of Hollywood women who want and deserve to paid as much as their male counterparts turned around a few months later and justified their own unethical behavior while not recognizing the rights of others and created hopelessness (at the very least in Chinese Americans). The very thing they can’t stand about Hollywood they just turned around and did to an entire culture which is selective tolerance (or you better agree with what I think is important despite lack of ethics while I choose to ignore what you think is important).
Looks like Sarah Jessica Parker said to herself “nothing tastes as good as cultural appropriation feels!” #racist #MetBall — Jon (@messybarbarian) May 5, 2015
When this happens, the original message from the Oscars regarding pay equality is weakened and credibility is lost because women in Hollywood who are discriminated against knowingly and willfully chose to exploit others for their own financial gain. A photo op that gains them publicity (future work) was more important than ethically recognizing the rights of others. Here’s a good rule: Nobody wins until everybody wins and one group that’s discriminated against doesn’t get to exploit or discriminate another for their own financial gain. The women of Hollywood could have attended the event, not shamelessly without remorse or guilt mocked the culture, not offended Chinese Americans, and not embarrassed the female gender. The New York Times Miley Cyrus Met Gala 2015
The Met Gala is gonna be such a mess. Vogue might as well issue a public apology tonight to all Chinese people. — Toni (@_ItsToni_) May 3, 2015
Cue the insulting and demeaning (finely crafted through their publicists) statements that they “didn’t mean to offend,” or “they’re sorry if they offended anyone,” or that they’re “actors” or “entertainers” and no (Katy Perry and Lady Gaga you don’t get to hide behind you both always dress like assholes) then the collective placing blame on the Gala’s theme without taking any personal accountability which is not only not an apology it’s an example of female Hollywood celebrities using tactics from The Sociopathic Business Model ™ to justify their unethical behavior.
Wish #metgala guests knew that instead of riffing on Chinese stereotypes u could just wear literally anything by any Chinese designer ever

Ladies your enTIDALment is showing-own it honestly, apologize sincerely and don’t repeat the offense again. People make mistakes and second chances are earned however Hollywood please feel shame that Kendall Jenner and Miley Cyrus* were the benchmarks for ethical fashion success at this year’s Met Gala; but, there’s always hope for next year as long as Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t Graydon Carter someone into a food stamp themed Met Gala. UPDATED: Hollywood and media decided to doubled-down on offending Chinese Americans by choosing to ignore it. Remember that the next time Sarah Jessica Parker wants support for a new show or movie or Katy Perry or Lady Gaga release a new album. *I chose not to show any of the women who exploited the Chinese culture as in doing so is rewarding unethical behavior. Here’s a helpful hint, if you’re ever unsure if what you’re wearing crosses the line from homage to cultural appropriation do everyone a favor and put it back in the closet. I am a white woman who writes about business ethics and am not qualified to discuss Chinese cultural appropriation from a personal perspective.
UPDATED: June 20, 2015 Adam Sandler is racist AND sexist-called out by actor Rose McGowan:
casting note that came w/script I got today. For real. name of male star rhymes with Madam Panhandler hahahaha I die pic.twitter.com/lCWGTV537t

The Beyonce bots are always spinning. Remember only the unethical need to spin to “change a narrative” adding African in front of Hindu after she was called out on Twitter.
@emifinch @elenacresci Yeah. Beyoncé’s Grammy show made her look like a Hindu goddess & the Virgin Mary. *shrug*
— Helen Lewis (@helenlewis) February 15, 2017
Unless you are “it” you do not dress up as “it” because it’s viewed as wearing a costume, which is offensive. “It” refers to any race or culture that is not your own. Selective Tolerance where Beyonce in her Hindu cultural misappropriation Grammy performance being celebrated while Kloss’ recent Vogue cultural misappropriation of the Asian culture is being slammed. Both Beyonce & Kloss are using #SelectiveToleranceB under The Sociopathic Business Model™, which states that one minority group does not recognize the rights of another minority group without shame, remorse, guilt or accountability.
