Good People Doing Great Things: Jane Akre & Corporate Action Network
June 5, 2014
I’m an idiot and do the exact opposite of what every other person does when they’re about to talk to someone they’ve never met before on the phone for the first time. I don’t Google them. Counterintuitive yes, but I want to hear people’s stories from them.
I had the extreme honor and privilege to speak with Jane Akre who started Mesh Medical News Desk, getting the stories of tens of thousands of women who have been harmed by mesh out in the media (which despite over 40,000 cases in the US alone) is not an easy task.
She is selfless, humble and a true fighter. If only I’d know just how much of a fighter before our conversation. She mentioned casually fighting Fox News as a reference to how she became an advocate. She downplayed that she was featured in the 2003 documentary The Corporation. Embarrassingly the documentary has been recommended to me several times and is now on this weekend’s must do list.
Please support Jane in her newest venture Corporate Action Network launching what is planned to be the first of a 50 state campaign to urge the Attorneys General of all 50 states to investigate healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson for mesh-injuries and their related costs and the destruction of documents requested in litigation.

With most, if not all, governmental regulatory agencies functioning as wholly owned subsidiaries of Big Corporate Interest, activism seem to be our last best hope for staving off the cancer of your well-named Sociopathic Model. As long as we have people like you and Ms.Akre, perhaps there’s hope. I know it makes me sleep a bit better. Thank you both.
Jane Akre
Thank you Melayna… I thought you had seen The Corporation when we talked because of the sociopathic references… it is so accurate. I love this film! so cool… thanks for bringing it to new eyes… It’s worth watching! As is revisiting the power we let corporations have over our lives….!
Thank you for speaking out! You are a hero.

You both are so kind and it’s very humbling. I’ve been told by many (“in the know”) that Americans and the media are apathetic and we can’t make people care. I can’t and won’t believe that and will fight to prove otherwise until my last breathe.

If it had not been for Jane as well as a few others I would not be where I am right now. Laying here in tremendous amounts of pain after enduring 2 partiala..2 really rough RV trips cross the US (Ga to Ca) commenting on this just day after full mesh Removal by Dr. Raz after 9 years of Hell. I have learned so much from Jane and some of the others.
Mary Pat
So glad you got mesh removed by Dr. Raz. I wish i would have seen Janes website, so I too, would have known hiw damaging a partial removal is! For everyone reading this, DO NOT get a partial removal. I am a million times worse as a result of partial removals!
Mary Pat
Melayna and Jane, thank you for caring! I have been pondering the apathy of most people. It’s a mystery to me why it is so difficult to get people interested or to care about mesh victims. Everyone is so busy….at work….at home…… Their lives are unaffected. For those of ys who are i jured and suffering fighting the mesh battle is all consuming. I wish more people cared.
Melayna Lokosky
Thank you Mary Pat! I think in part the mainstream media does a horrible job of keeping this story in the news which helps put pressure on the companies; and drives awareness of the problem to others outside the mesh community. I candidly did not know how bad it was until I started to do research on Johnson & Johnson/ Ethicon/ Gynecare and came across Jane’s page. (And I worked in the industry and for Johnson & Johnson-I did not sell mesh-but you sell what you’re told to sell, believe your employer won’t lie and when you think they are and call them on it-you get fired). ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX 60 minutes and Dateline need do a story a day (week) to On Medical Mesh awareness; but Johnson & Johnson did pay $20-30 million for their ad campaign “For All You Love” last year which might explain why we see so little on the national front. The major networks can’t bite the hands that feed them. The Today Show for one always does a Johnson & Johnson Baby segment. Journalism is bought and paid for much like our government officials sadly. Stay strong and thank you for reading and advising others on the removal process.

I have had original surgery two erosion then went to Cleveland clinic to try and it removed was told she got what she could but the rest had adhered to my other organs this is horrible ! Do u think Dr Raz could help ?
Melayna Lokosky
Hi Alice-I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through and continue to go through. Jane Akre is best to advise you as she’s had personal experience with other victims regarding the actual removal. Or perhaps you could set an appointment and send your medical charts (with specific notes) to Dr. Raz for an initial consult? If you haven’t, already, it’s important to keep a detailed copy of your medical notes as they’ll be helpful for other providers to reference and are the best documented history for legal and federal recourse. Also keep a daily journal detailing how your life has changed since the initial implantation to present. I’ve spoken to a few victims and wish I could be more help as part of the solution as far as removal goes. Please let me know if you need Jane’s contact information or if you need help obtaining your medical records from your original surgery or from the Cleveland Clinic. Also, do you know if a MAUDE report was done at the time at Cleveland Clinic? If so you will want to keep that with your information. (sorry for the delay in the response).
