109 Degrees Outside-It’s a Good Time to Go Cut the Grass: Happy Father’s Day Edition
June 13, 2014
The sound of the lawnmower outside in Phoenix at 3PM during a 109 degree heat wave certainly doesn’t sound normal or reasonable but if you’re from our family it does. We’ve all tried to reason with my dad (to get a yard guy) or at the very least cut the grass in the morning. Nope-he’s not having it. Stubborn is an understatement when it comes to my father. He also has unparalleled drive and has been successful despite incredible odds.
Father’s Day 2009
(with the only two people ever allowed to walk on the grass in his yard)
I’m always proud when people say “You’re your father’s daughter.” Work reviews have used words like hard-headed, stubborn, obstinate, or like a dog with a bone and I can’t help but smirk a little as an ode to my dad as those same words where used as he was challenged on the road to success; and, taught all three of his daughter’s and now two grandsons, it’s not about being right it’s about doing right.
And on a sad Father’s day note, Pittsburgh Steeler legend and family household hero Chuck Noll passed away. We would all gather in our basement as a family on Sundays when the Steelers were playing in the 70’s and my dad would scream at the TV. It was the only time he wasn’t screaming at us. Those are precious memories for us all. Our hearts go out to the Rooneys and the fans in Pittsburgh because he was a part of everyone’s family-Godspeed Mr. Noll.
