Grab a snack-this is a long Case Study!

Cheetos-Motherfunny-Diethood (1)

If the title of this post looks like the dinner party from hell guest list, it is, sort of-well it’s a Case Study guest list demonstrating how unchecked unethical or illegal behavior allows for escalation into far greater unethical or illegal behavior which could ultimately harm employees, consumers, investors and taxpayers alike.

As a reminder the first sign a company is operating under The Sociopathic Business Model™: Violation of employee’s EEOC rights: Retaliation, Race, Sex, or Religious Discrimination. If a company is willing to overlook the rights of an employee the company is far more likely to engage in greater unethical or illegal activity.

Once an employee’s rights have been violated the second sign we  look for are inconsistent and contradictory language to actions from the company to create a profile to determine if characteristics or tactics from The Sociopathic Business Model™ are being utilized to harm employees unethically or illegally.

And lastly, if a company is utilizing six or more characteristics or tactics from The Sociopathic Business Model™ then there are tools provided with the recommendation of employing an attorney and a licensed psychologist in order to help protect the employee which also include #ForcedAccountability and #PSPinUnSpun.

The Case Studies below are directly cut and pasted from ValleyWag and Gawker, click on the title to go directly to their pages. The goal is to be able to pick out the unethical or illegal characteristics from The Sociopathic Business Model™ from  regular text; and, well their snark is refreshing. I will apologize in advance that I don’t know how to change the text color (I know) so I will annoyingly use italysis to denote new content as it relates to The Sociopathic Business Model™.

Here’s a big shocker: PayPal, the early online payment processing service that made a batch of Silicon Valley legends, was founded by a team of psychopaths. Peter Thiel, a PayPal co-founder and early Facebook backer, reveals in his new book that four of the six members of “The PayPal Mafia” built bombs for kicks in high school (1).

Normally manufacturing explosives would land you in prison, or at least get you sent to the principal’s office. But for the tony playboys of Silicon Valley, it’s just a quirky quality that comes stock with all tech founders.

“There’s something very extreme about the people who tend to found businesses,” Thiel explained to TechCrunch’s Alexia Tsotsis, brushing off any notion that this behavior is weird. “It’s a crazy thing in some ways to start a company.”

Of course, Thiel was quick to deny that he ever fabricated explosiveshe’snot the crazy one. And he wouldn’t name which of his four fellow founders in arms were. But we can always guess.

Pattern started in high school (1):

Interview Peter Theil gave TechCrunch (reported in ValleyWag):

glib and full of superficial charm

not recognizing the rights of others

lack of shame remorse or guilt

shallow emotions

quick to place blame

possible pathological lying (is he deflecting blame to project innocence or did he not build bombs?) I’d argue if you weren’t part of the action, why include that in your book? (again see glib superficial charm, not recongizing rights of others, etc.)

poor behavioral control

rarely challenged (since they didn’t get arrested in high school that unchecked unethical/illegal behaviorcould escalate later in life).

It will likely take #ForcedAccountability in the future to correct any unethical or illegal behavior.

Mike Arrington and Peter Thiel Fought Over Uber Like Boys With Toys

It’s not easy being Michael Arrington. To kickoff TechCrunch Disrupt SF this morning, the Uber investor directed a fierce and poignant native ad for his CrunchFund investment Uber—right there on stage, in real-time. With Uber CEO Travis Kalanick by his side, it was a veritable duet of damage control! But then Lyft investor Peter Thiel had to spoil the cozy fireside mood by acting just like Arrington.

By now, everyone knows the Disrupt house rules. The deck is stacked and Arrington’s investments always come out on top. The man was booted from office for conflict of interest andTechCrunch doesn’t even switch it up to improve the optics. When Arrington gets tough in an interview, you’re supposed to sit back and admire the swagger, nevermind that it is in his financial interest.

“Annoying” is child’s play. What does it take to get Arrington to call you a “worthless dick”? Half a Tweetstorm, a chiffonade of real talk, and liberal heaping of righteousness, as Founders Fund partner Geoff Lewis discovered this afternoon.

Lewis didn’t add a 5/5 footnote that Founders Fund invested in Lyft twice, but he’s not the one on stage. When it came time for Lewis’ fellow Founders Fund partner to get on the self-promotion block, Thiel was ready:

Well that’s a little premature. Balancing Palantir’s ties to the CIA must be a hurdle for Thiel, its Libertarian investor. Still, it’s unwise to give a chess master like Thiel too much time on his next move, so Arrington decided to—oops—just topple the board.

Did I say little boys? I meant teenage girls.

Sidenote, I found some new people to follow on Twitter

Uberand Arrington are using inconsistent and contradictory language to actions regarding being “kinder and gentler,” now that Uber’s on the top.  When have we ever seen anyone strive to be number one and then jam on the brakes and channel Snow White for the new business plan?  Also glib and superficial charm And lack of transparency on who has invested in what is a manipulation to investors .

Employing brand amabassadors (accomplices) who likely will become (victims) to engage in unethical activity while glib and superficial charm

manipulating not recognizing the rights of others

verbal outbursts (calling someone a worthless dick on Twitter-classy and signs of a very balanced person-no doubt).

pathological lying

lack of shame, remorse or guilt

lack of accountability

shallow emotions

poor behavior control

creating hopelessness in the victims

insulting and demeaning (worthless dick-anyone else thinking it’s a lot of projection on Mike Arrington’s part?)

motivates through fear

places blame

bullies

People like Doug MacMillian , Geoff Lewis and Leslie Hook #ForcedAccountability and used some #PRSpinUnSpun to bring transparency and truth to this situation. Those who engage in half truths or suppress information they’d rather not have known will not come right out and provide facts.  It’s enough (for me personally) to know that I’d not want to support Thiel or Arrington in any business venture or want them anywhere near or behind the scenes of public office.

The Worst Human at Tinder Just Resigned

Justin Mateen CMO of Tinder resigns

Justin Mateen, the CMO of Tinder made famous for allegedly calling his coworker a whore and then getting his awful, abusive text messages publicized, has moved on.

Given his horrendous iMessage history and generally shit-head behavior—he was known at the company for being crass and obnoxious—I doubt this “resignation” was totally his decision. My source said only that Mateen left Tinder prior to the company’s settlement yesterday. Onward and upward, Justin!

Whitney Wolfe, Co-Founder and VP of Marketing at Tinder #ForcedAccountability from Mateen and Tinder

Inconsistent & contradictory language to actions from Tinder also resulted in: employing (accomplices) who  become (victims) to engage in unethical activity while glib and superficial charm.

Whitney Wolfe through #ForcedAccountability was able to restore her name (her attorney’s are using co-founder) and recovered damages while exposing the unethical and illegal activity of Tinder, who was in this scenerio, was operating under The Sociopathic Business Model™.  Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who wrote a book, mentions sex discrimination in Senate but refuses to name the guilty and force accountability. Gillibrand  could learn something from Ms. Wolfe regarding calling out those engaging in sexual abuse and discrimination.

It’s a big week for legal settlements! With the entire tech and business world paying attention to new iPhones, Snapchat just issued a little press release admitting Reggie Brown did indeed help create the app.

The admission—and presumably hefty, undisclosed settlement sum—comes after a year of denials from CEO Evan Spiegel and co-founder Bobby Murphy, who claimed Brown’s contribution to the company had been minimal before he’d been completely forced out.

Given that Snapchat is “worth” $10 billion, according to the venture capitalists inflating this paper price tag, Brown’s stake in the company would have been “worth” a gargantuan amount. Instead, he’ll have to make due with being merely rich, a footnote in the great saga of Kappa Sigma handjobs, pissy emails, and Taylor Swift rumors that make up The Snapchat Story. It’s worked out well enough for the Winklevii, but they had that certain Harvard villainy thing going for them—plus being handsome identical twins helps.

Brown doesn’t have that. He never became a character in this story. So now he’ll become no one again, clutching a check, and this line from a press release dumped during an Apple keynote:

Discussing the settlement, Spiegel said, “We are pleased that we have been able to resolve this matter in a manner that is satisfactory to Mr. Brown and the Company. We acknowledge Reggie’s contribution to the creation of Snapchat and appreciate his work in getting the application off the ground.

Inconsistent and contradictory language to action from Snapchat CEO Evan Speigel and co-founder Bobby Murphy regarding Reggie Brown’s involvement of the company.

Reggie Brown through #ForcedAccountability was able to uncover the pathological lies of a company operating under The Sociopathic Business Model ™ restore his name, damage Snapchat’s image with the facts and recover damages.

And let’s not forget these are the same people who use words like “world domination” with a straight face; and, no we do not want to Gods of Frauds to cross over into politics which is the next logical step for the egomaniacal; because, we all know there’s enough fraud in politics already.

And as a reader if you are recognizing signs of employer abuse take steps to protect yourself now. As demonstrated above, all accomplices eventually become victims-it’s not a matter of “if” it’s “when.” So don’t expect things to get better unless you’re willing to #ForceAccountability and look at the #PRSPinUnSpun.
