CA Jury Forced Accountability on Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon’s Gynecare: $5.7M Mesh Verdict

CA Jury Forced Accountability on Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon’s Gynecare: $5.7M Mesh Verdict

March 6, 2015

PRSpin JNJ: Filing a motion a month ago claiming women in the transvaginal mesh cases were fraudulently filing cases.

PRSpinUnSpun JNJ: Forced to Pay $5.7 million for “malice” towards a woman in a transvaginal mesh cases.

Coleen Perry was the plaintiff implanted with Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon’s Gynecare’s TVT Abbrevo transvaginal mesh; and, yesterday a CA jury awarded her $700,000 in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages after what her attorney described (and it appears the jury agreed) as “malice” on the part of the company.  Is the jury’s multi-million dollar award akin to #CleanUpYourMesh #JNJ ?

The verdict is the fourth win for plaintiffs suing Ethicon over transvaginal mesh. More than 36,000 lawsuits have been filed against Ethicon in state and federal courts over the devices, which are used to treat stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Reuters

Ethicon’s lawyers said the product was thoroughly vetted before it hit the market and that doctors considered the mesh used in the Abbrevo to be the “gold standard” for incontinence treatment. Ummm which doctors would those be? The ones on the JNJ payroll? (Ahem-Dr. Andrew Brill)

Johnson & Johnson spokeswoman Sheri Woodruff the company continues to sell mesh gold standard

Does Johnson & Johnson now employ more attorneys than they do reps at this point?

And has Johnson & Johnson spokesperson Sheri Woodruff been coaching Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon’s Gynecare’s lawyers on the “gold standard?”  Remember there is no credentialing on what constitutes the “gold standard,” when marketing a product.

Good news for Sheri Woodruff though-it appears Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon’s Gynecare has a new mouthpiece spokesman, Matthew Johnson.  I mean those poor African children aren’t going to exploit themselves after all. Thank goodness for Sheri Woodruff :

“Each market we work with is very unique—developed nations, like the U.S., Canada, and those in Europe; emerging markets, where things are moving quickly and taking shape; and resource-poor countries, like in Africa.”

Let’s hope the “gold standard” doesn’t find its way to “resource-poor countries, like in Africa.”

PRSpin JNJ: Ethicon spokesman Matthew Johnson said the company believed it has strong grounds for appeal. Ethicon stands behind the safety and effectiveness of the Abbrevo, as well as its development and marketing, he added.

Really? Because insulting and demeaning victims by filing a motion defaming them (only to pull the motion) worked so well-they really should just keep on insulting victims.  That’s working out really well for them.

PRSpinUnSpun JNJ: Each day a Johnson & Johnson settlement is in the news it could negatively impact their imagine an in turn possibly profits.

In the last few weeks Johnson & Johnson paid a Risperdal victim $2.5 million (with another 1,207 cases filed in Philadelphia) and now Johnson & Johnson paid a Gynecare TVT victim $5.7 million (with another 36,000 cases filed in state and federal court).  Yep, this isn’t going to end well for the company that has quickly, with the exposure of their own negative truth, aligned itself to become the poster child for The Sociopathic Business Model™.

Remember if you or someone you love has been injured by company remember to boycott the entire family of products to create the greatest impact.

Please join Boycott the Band-Aid and send Johnson & Johnson a message that they can no longer dismiss victims by trying to cover up problems.

If you’d like to see Johnson & Johnson spokespeople and executives like CEO Alex Gorsky held acccountable to victims please join this campaign along with over 27,000 other people who have:  BOYCOTT Johnson & Johnson until Executives Held Accountable
